Sleep F$@king: Revision, delves into the writers process and the idea of “wish fulfillment”. As John continues to write his novel amidst his insomnia and wine indulgence, he, along with the audience loses sight of what is real and what is the novel. This is displayed through the process of revision. When the audience sees a scene once, they will see the same scene again revised, all while moving the story forward. The world of the play and novel overlap and become one, as John physically enters his book. I imagine the stage to be split like the side by side pages of a book, for John to cross the imaginary line of the novel, and the characters of the novel to cross the same imaginary line into real life, until the stage is overcome completely by both realities. The play bounces back and forth between three scenes, Mary’s entrance into Johns apartment, John and Sarah’s breakup, and the moment Mary slept with Sarah. The play explores the physical experience of writing.
