Crescent City Rebirth is the playwrights love letter to New Orleans. The play follows Morgan, an actress who has returned home since Hurricane Katrina to write a play and restore her family home and business which she once abandoned. Though the journey of she seeks to find her story in the cities history, friends and the people of the community. The play explores the themes of love, identity, friendship and revenge.

BIOS:

Monique Pappas Williams is a native of New Orleans. A film she wrote and produced was selected for the 2020 New York Lift Off Film Festival and a creative piece she wrote debuted as part of a collaboration in the Off Broadway Billie Holiday Theater’s 2020 Love In the Time of Corona. Sabura Rashid is a playwright, director, producer, and dramaturg whose original work has been produced at TNC thanks to the indomitable Crystal Field, Executive Artistic Director of Theater for the New City, whom she thanks for being among her most important mentors. Sabura studied creative writing and theatre at various schools and has directed her own and others' plays around the NY Metro area. Her own plays have received Audelco and other awards including a residency and reading of "Paradigm Shift" in the August Wilson Jambalaya Festival at Congo Square Theater in Chicago; her work was featured in the Rthymcolor Potpourri Festival of New Work by Women Playwrights, and Negro Ensemble Company Festival of Women Writers. Sabura has directed the work of Laurence Holder, Owa, Jamal Williams, August Wilson, Andrea J. Fulton, David Lamb, Darren Stamps, Joyce Sylvester and others. She recently directed "New World Order" for the New Federal Theatre's New Playwrights / New Actors Reading Series Festival. A scene from her latest original play "Marilyn & Lena" appeared in TNC's Annual LES Spring Festival this past May. She thanks Monique Pappas for the opportunity to direct her wonderful new play "Crescent City Rebirth."
