Bio for Susan Crawford

After much acting in her teens and early twenties, Susan’s theatrical interests turned to playwriting.  She has written three plays, co-written a fourth, written a screenplay, and wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics to a musical (currently being developed for production).   All are comedies, and, drawing on the parallel experience of writing market reports for several years, she has a particular interest in satirizing follies and foibles of the business world.

Susan studied playwriting with Arthur Kopit, and screenwriting with William Kelley and Syd Field.  She studied lyric-writing through the ASCAP workshop, as well as in workshops with Carolyn Leigh and Sheila Davis.

Susan also co-developed for Ned Sherrin the continuity for “Only In America,” a compilation of Leiber and Stoller songs produced at the Roundhouse in London.  (This was an antecedent to what eventually turned into “Smokey Joe’s Café,” through many other hands along the way.)
