CHIMA CHIKAZUNGA(Chauncey/Chima)-a native New Yorker ( B.A. Florida State University) is an actor, writer, and director. As an actor he has performed on stages in New York, Boston, Florida, and New Jersey. This is his third festival as a writer/director. Recently he was pleased to be a part of the 11th Annual Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF). He shared his new work, “3 The Hard Way”, which was inspired and dedicated to his late grandmother Evelyn M. Fogle. Two months later on May 24 at the LES FESTIVAL FOR THE ARTS, he was fortunate to represent DUTF and had another opportunity to present “3 The Hard Way” (under the title of DUTF). Now, in August of 2013, Chima is proud to present “Sophie’s Sweet 16,” in THEATRE FOR THE NEW CITY’S DREAM UP FESTIVAL. This is the 1st play of a tretalogy. The 2nd play was shown on October 23, 2012, when Theater for the New City presented a reading of his play “The Accidental Kiss” as part of their Scratch Night. He is extremely humbled to work with such a talented team of creative artists for following me with my vision of this intimate piece and sharing this with an active audience. This play is dedicated to his grandmother Vivian Clarke, and in the memory of the late Jack Klugman. All of whom continue to inspire him every day. Sophie’s Sweet 16 is not meant to shock. It is his hope this play builds awareness of dementia and of those whose lives are taken too soon. He would like to thank the cast and crew for trusting in helping me follow his vision for this intimate piece. God Bless.
